United States 2021, 79 min, English, Hebrew & English subtitles
The beginning was idyllic: two young and good-looking college students with a shared passion for music met in choir, fell in love, and started a family. But that was then, and this is now. The change did not happen in a day, and director Nira Burstein shows the painful downward spiral with incredible warmth and compassion. The couple are her parents, and her childhood home is now crumbling inside and out. No stain or scratch in the New York house escapes Burstein’s gaze, and the same is true for her family’s life: the mental health struggles of her mother and sister, her father’s crushed dreams, and the neglect that surrounds them all. With her other sister’s polyamorous wedding coming up, the family tries to regain the intimacy, love, hope, and laughter that radiate so brightly from the home videos they had filmed over the years.
