When an assassin shot her in the head at close range, nobody thought Gabby Giffords would survive. The Arizona congresswoman was a big proponent of social legislation and even personally joined relief efforts in disaster zones. The bullet that had ripped through her brain left her partially blind and unable to move or speak. Her partner, astronaut and space shuttle commander Mark Kelly, started filming her from the moment she opened her eyes. RBG directors Julie Cohen and Betsy West join Giffords as she tenaciously pursues her goals: regaining her speech and returning to public service. Her remarkable life story and the story of her marriage to Kelly (who took her place in congress) are backdropped by the ongoing public debate on gun ownership in the US. The film features interview footage with Barack Obama, among others.
