Ukraine / United States 2022, 70 min, Russian and Ukrainian, Hebrew & English subtitles

Florian Yuriev’s architectural magnum opus is in danger. A real estate developer has his eye on the building—a movie theater at the heart of Kyiv known as “The Flying Saucer”—and wants to turn it into part of a shopping mall. Yuriev, now almost 90, refuses to back down. A painter, musician, architect, filmmaker, and art theorist, Yuriev has never gone with the flow, and financial considerations have never deterred him from making revolutionary art—from his very own alphabet to a new language of color and musicality. Filmmaker Oleksiy Radynski joins Yuriev at the negotiating table as he fights to save “The Flying Saucer”. A visit to his home, packed with artworks that have graced countless exhibitions worldwide, reveals Yuriev as a man kept alive by two things: art and the urge to provoke and shock the mainstream.
