When his uncle David announced he was dying, director Simon Chambers rushed back from India to be by his side. But the end did not come until years later, and those years were vibrant, chaotic, and full of surprises. Former actor David Gale spends most of his time naked, quoting Shakespeare or dancing around in his house—a delightful mix between a museum and a junkyard. But caring for David is not easy, and the filmmaker is often called upon to help with various emergencies. David’s aging body no longer responds favorably to the wild whimsies of his young heart, and even when he seems to be relishing the drama, he is in need of supervision and medical care. This is a story about the twilight years of a free-spirited man who changed every life he blazed through.
