A Discussion Following the Screening of the Episode

In Collaboration With The Van Leer Institute

At a time of intensifying contention around Israel’s political structure and the place of secularism and religion within it, the Van Leer Institute, which assisted with research for the series Secularism, will host a panel discussion that seeks to examine the meaning of secularism from various perspectives. How can we understand secularism in a country that claims to be both democratic and Jewish? Will a constitution solve the problem of state–secularism relations in Israel once and for all? Is there any chance for secularism in a state founded around a nationality that is also a religion?

Panelists:

  • former Minister of Justice Dan Meridor
  • Prof. Michael Karayanni
  • Moderator: Dr. Yochi Fisher
  • Professor Yedidia Z. Stern

The discussion will be conducted in Hebrew.
