Lithuania 2001, 16 min, Lithuanian, Hebrew & English subtitles
The film’s opening shot exposes the act of documentation: A hidden camera is placed in a car, facing the back seat. Soon, a little girl will sit there, frowning, her big eyes gazing straight ahead. The hidden camera tries to see into the depths of her soul and discover what lies behind the pensive anticipation reflected in her eyes. Under Audrius Stonys’s skillful touch, the faded monochrome hues are gradually infused with layers of nostalgia and melancholy, and we are treated to a poetic piece encapsulating an emotion that cannot be explained in words—only in the melody of images and sounds.
