France 2023, 77 min, English and French, Hebrew & English subtitles

Five-year-old April moves with her father from London to Paris with some apprehension. When the pandemic forces her to stay indoors, she wishes to return to England. In a last attempt to convince her, her father suggests that they spend the summer in a village in southern France, where her great-grandfather had lived. Afterwards, if April still wants to leave, they would. April’s time with the friends of a relative she has never met changes everything. The disarming directness with which she addresses every woman, man, animal, and flower she encounters opens up people’s hearts and helps her gain a better understanding of existence, life, and its inevitable end. Filmed and directed by April’s father, this charming and beautiful documentary challenges our adult thinking by giving us sweeping, graceful glimpses into her rich world.
