Austria / Italy 2023, 80 min, Italian, Hebrew & English subtitles
An airily beautiful lyrical observational doc about a social arena that changes with the weather—an Italian resort town on the coast of the Adriatic. First come the preparations: The sand is raked, the deckchairs are set up, and service workers gather as the skies clear and the days grow long and sunny. Then the tourists arrive, tiny fast-moving dots that pour into every corner, filling hotels and restaurants and flocking to sports and leisure facilities. Catering to them are maids and laundresses, lifeguards, and knick-knack vendors. And suddenly, in this capitalist paradise, a socialist consciousness awakens, and the workers, all on short-term contracts that will expire when the last vacationer goes home, take to the streets in protest, hoping to secure their future and regain their dignity.
The short doc Concrete will be screened before the film.
